Trends for Spring // 2018 // Polka Dots

I love how so many kinds of black and white graphic designs were so present on the runway collection for this spring.

Above all, the polka-dot pattern was there is all its forms and intepretatios – small dots, large dots, black backround, white background, gathered dots, wide-spread dots, and so on and so forth.

With it’s cute rhythm, the polka dot pattern stands out well in a punk-inspired outfit, as seen at Junya Watanabe, but can also look sweet in an ultra-feminine super chic dress, as propsed by Rodarte.

Play with dots size and patterns to create sophisticated layered looks. As an extra tip, don’t forget to insert neutral full collor layers, for balance and proportions.

Never underestimate the power of a polka dot top with puffer sleeves, or the versatility of some polka-dots printed creion-pants or shorts.

What to wear in 2018 // Trends // #1 // Denim//

denim18.jpg……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Who could have imagined in the first place that this strong, resistant fabric discovered in the later part of the XIX-th century, as the perfect textile for male workers, will one day a must have in the closet of every chic woman?

Denim material is making a full come-back and taking over the scene. Style scene, that is. Any denim color would do, and if you mix different pieces, don’t forget to play with shades and overlay them.

Yet, if you strike to be totally up-dated to the now, then remember the dark denim and and it’s classy, polished feel. It looks gorgeous on any tailoring, from flare jeans to blazers, jackets and mini skirts.

Winter coats

Something to keep you warm in full winter season is a must, but if you wish to add another layer to your choice, like keeping up with the aesthetics of the moment, be mindful of what designers proposed for the cold days ahead.

There are various directions which can take your everyday styling to new heights, so following the one that feels most authentic should come easy. Classics will do, but also keep in mind the new, actual, reinterpreted versions, for a bit of edge.

Furs and Faux Furs.
Choosing between a good-quality faux fur or an eco, mindfully grown natural fur is a long discussion and a matter of preference in the end, so I will not get into that debate right now. But if you do choose to wear a fur this winter, just be creative with it, and explore colors and textures. A pastel shearling coat, a check-printed fur, some animal print patterns or a big, chunky plush. Why not?

Classical coats & the new styling.
That iconic camel classical trench is a wining it’s way back up in our closets. How can you not love them when they are so versatile and feminine and chic? Find a well tailored piece that complements your body and there you have it – that one thing that will elevate your outfit. Go for a classical camel belted one, or a checked oversized masculine version. Think Balneciaga and add a pop of color with some neon stretch boots or style with a vibrant clutch. If you feel like daring, chose a cool deconstructed classical coat, that reinvents shape and function.

Capes are also making a comeback, and it feels like a fairy tale came true. Literally. Capes can make a huge statement, so don’t overthink if you feel drawn to one of these beauties – just buy it!

Puffer jackets.
I remember wearing these when I was a kid and loving them. I couldn’t be any happier for this comeback. Not only do I love that comfy sensation you have while being hugged by a puffer jacket, but I also find myself inspired by their versatility. I like how they look cool and sharp, while paired both with snickers or pointed high heels.

As an option, consider a very shiny design in a bright color, to pop-up your look. However, a powdered, matte material looks much cooler than it sounds and is my top choice regarding puffers. Also, take advantage of the volume and get one that plays with the design of the neckline in your advantage.

Leather looks.
When it comes to leather this year, it’s all about shine and dark colors. Think Matrix inspired shiny long leather coats, with belt and dark sunglasses and you have a pretty actual look. In a milder version, a 70’s inspired look with lush hair and a floral dress would benefit from the structure of a chic leather trench. For a more sophisticated appearance, a monochrome black outfit, where shiny leather plays with a knit top and velvet trousers, will also look fresh and up-dated.

Styling Renaissance // My Choice

img-set-3.jpg

Since all week we’ve talked about this ongoing trend, I couldn’t help myself but be seduced by it and go with the flow.

The result? My personal styling choice, involving this Carolina Herrera embroidered dress, coupled with some whimsical touches here and there. And, of course, a bit of nature, only this time in the shape of beautiful and poisonous Belladonna flowers, applied directly on the front of this lovely hand-made clutch I found on Etsy.com.

Shoes for Fall 2016 – Chapter I

mid heel.jpg

Easy to wear and easy to style, with a certain retro-chic charm, the mid-heel shoes are still on, after a few seasons of high popularity.

For this fall in particular, think opulence and sparkles when it comes to shoes.

Leather with metallic shine, as seen at Tommy Hilfiger and Erdem, soft velvet as proposed by DKNY, feathers and embellishments that came straight out of the Wonderland, at Gucci and Dolce&Gabbana.

This season, choose shoes and boots that tell a story and leave the dull, mundane world behind. Than pair them with culotte pants or midi skirts and dresses, a neutral tee and a crop double breasted jacket and go kick-ass. In style.

Spring Summer ’16 // Trends // The Culottes

culottes.jpg

Stay loose and laid back this summer when choosing your outfits. Invite in the new pieces that are making such a big come back (all the way from the ’90) – the culottes pants.

If you ever wanted to experience both de feminine feeling of wearing a skirt while still being comfortable enough when sitting and lazying around in the bean bags of your garden, remember the culotte pants were invented.

Get a pair yourself and experiment with it, as the combinations are basically endless. From sneakers and T’s for a basic casual, to lace tops, wedges and everything in between, it won’t be hard to find a match for your culottes.

Their biggest advantage is that they expose just as needed, showing off your beautiful shoes and fit ankles, while giving you the comfort to enjoy a fashionable super-relaxed look.

Spring Summer ’16 // Trends // Mesh

mesh

There are quite a few options to add some interesting visual effect to a casual look. For example, considering some interlaced structures as details to integrate in an outfit can be a fun process.

Play with textures and sizes, from a casual mesh tee worn under a blazer, as seen at Rag&Bone, or get edgy, with thick leather straps, like in the Fausto Puglisi show. Anywhere in between, you’ll find a lot of space to experiment and get creative.

Crochets are also included, so a feminine top or a slim long vest will add a touchy feel to your look. They make a cool match with a shiny pair of pants or some metallic top, as well as in the company of a basics top, accessorized with oversized jewels.

Spring Summer 2016 // The Slit Dress

split dress .jpg

Every once in a while, a sassy detail makes all the difference in your everyday look. Just like rolling your jeans and cuffing your shirt to give it a more relaxed feeling, adding a slit or two to a long skirt or dress (even shirt) will give it a clear playful, flirty twist.

There are so many ways to explore this trend that it will be hard to get bored by it. Go for one simple cut, but as high as can be without exposing too much, and enjoy a new fresh version of the maxi skirt, as seen at Rag & Bone and Marc Jacobs.

Feeling bolder? Go for double cuts, climbing high on your legs. Add an edgy touch with a few zippers, as seen in the Hood by Air collection. Either way, this will make your legs look longer and slimmer than ever.

The romantic side is not too far to reach either. With 3 slits or even more, a lot of movement and a touch of play will be added to a large boho dress. Same goes for the structural pieces, as seen in Fausto Puglisi show: so many slits make the end side of the skirt look somewhere between spaghetti straps and fringe. Such a dynamic effect!
