Trends Fall # 19 // Dark Florals

dark florals.jpg

Florals on dark backgrounds is not a new trend, but rather one in ongoing bloom.
For 2019 we are talking about large patterns with voluminous elements, spread with a distance from one another, contrasting with the powerful background. Also, as seen in Prada, some patterns are not repetitive and consist in gathering of elements in certain parts of the garment, or, show just one large colorful flower, as feminine accent on the dark surface.
Dark florals grow on many kind of clothing pisces, not only dresses –  coats, puffer jackets, as seen at Marc Jacobs, blazers and suits, scarfs. Now more than ever, is time to cultivate your own dark romance garden!

Fall Trends # 19 // Oversized Round Shouldered Coat

round big coat.jpg

One of the key items of this coming season, spotted in almost every collection, is this large, oversized winter coat, typically with raglan cut or just large shoulders.
The variations and style are endless, from the retro- inspired, dreamy nude leather coat seen at Simone Rocha, to a more modern and practical approach made by Rick Owens, that brings a lot of comfort with the fleece, fluff material. Dolce&Gabana offers a coat infused with fantasy and precious elements, like the dark lace embroidery, while the coat seen in Loewe show has a more edgy, geometric design.
Either way, the oversized round shouldered coat is one of the essential keys in the winter wardrobe.

Big, voluminous shoulders are very popular choices this season. Seen everywhere on the runway, from Rick Owens to Simone Rocha, the ‘inverted triangle’ silhouette trend makes a power statement, in various scenarios.
For a chic but simple approach, easy to style and wear everyday, the coat with an edgy, structured shoulder cut, as seen in Saint Laurent, works wonders in almost any wardrobe. If you feel a little more daring or you want to make a fierce style statement, go for the more dramatic, impressive tailoring around the shoulder, as seen at Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs and Isabel Marant.

Ash and stone may break your bones, but moon is always lighting
Through every crack in the thick walls
Until they fall apart.

Summer 2018 // Accessories // The Fanny-Pack is Back

fannypack.jpg—————————————————————————————————————————————–Another piece coming back straight from the 90s, the fanny pack has gone through some major face-lifts and upgrades, adding a layer of style to a very practical object.

You can now chose from a variety of fanny packs that not only feel like freedom and are so easy to wear and use, but also look pretty chic.

Not only first choice at festivals and parties, but also a good option to wear uptown, the fanny pack visually marks your waist line and enhances your natural lines when wearing a loose dress, for example.

With jeans a large t-shirt, or on top of an oversized jacket, hang the fanny pack across your chest and align with the relax feeling it brings.

Summer 2018 // Trends // Start Wearing Purple

purple.jpg

There’s something really special about this hue, that was recently crowned ‘Color of the Year’ by Pantone Institute. This year, we have shades of purple everywhere, from bold hair tones to monochrome total plum looks.

Going darker in winter months and a bit lighter in summer, purple is here to stay all year round. Probably the most dramatic and expressive outfit is one daring monochrome look, but purple looks lovely in details also.

Purple makes a great match with yellow shades and if you want don’t want to stand out this much, some spots of plum and green or mustard accessories will also look pretty chic on a dark background- black-dress-of-your-choice.

Accessories’ Tips // Spring 2018 // The Scrunchies

skrunchies.jpg

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
When it comes to accessories, this spring is full of surprises, and the come-back of the scrunchies is the first of them.

I remember growing up with my hair tied up in all colors and textures of these chunky pieces. Nonetheless, scrunchies were on the rise in the 90’s and I remember lovely grandma sewing them, so I had at least one option for every outfit.

Scrunchies are fun and lovable, work amazingly on long hair and can give a chic touch look with the minimum of styling. Best part is, you never get to lose them around the house, due to their chubby nature.

Spring 2018 // Trends // Sequins

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
This is a story about a trend that is not necessarily new, but persistent – the sequins are on for some seasons and are here to stay. It seems we can’t get enough of these shiny details and fluid textures.

If you are in the mood for a bit of extravaganza, this is your moment. Start your morning with a glass of champagne and wear a sequin dress before 12.00 am. Adding some jeans and sneakers, though, or a fluffy oversized cardigan and combo boots might tame it a little.

If you think too much is too much, stick to smaller proportions. Shiny textures also look good as details, so keep on open eye for variations.

Trends for Spring // 2018 // Polka Dots

polkadots2.jpg

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
I love how so many kinds of black and white graphic designs were so present on the runway collection for this spring.

Above all, the polka-dot pattern was there is all its forms and intepretatios – small dots, large dots, black backround, white background, gathered dots, wide-spread dots, and so on and so forth.

With it’s cute rhythm, the polka dot pattern stands out well in a punk-inspired outfit, as seen at Junya Watanabe, but can also look sweet in an ultra-feminine super chic dress, as propsed by Rodarte.

Play with dots size and patterns to create sophisticated layered looks. As an extra tip, don’t forget to insert neutral full collor layers, for balance and proportions.

Never underestimate the power of a polka dot top with puffer sleeves, or the versatility of some polka-dots printed creion-pants or shorts.
